UK WORLD CHOCOLATE MASTER
The World Chocolate Masters is the ultimate pastry competition. It makes ‘The Bake Off’ look like a walk in the park! Imagine the world’s top chocolate and pastry talent, fighting their way through national heats to be crowned National Chocolate Master.
Each national champion then heads to Paris to compete in the World Finals against 20 other national champions.
To prepare for the World Chocolate Masters, Ruth trained for 25 hours a week for a whole year.
Her coach, UK Pastry Team President Martin Chiffers, worked closely with Ruth, helping her to interpret the competition theme across each of the categories, and develop and refine her chocolate and pastry recipes.
In any international culinary competition, it’s important for the jury to be of a quality that allows world class talent to be appropriately assessed.
The jury for the World Chocolate Masters is made up of 20 internationally renowned chefs, one from each of the competing nations. Included in Ruth’s jury line-up were international culinary superstars Sergio Herman (Netherlands), Ramon Morato (Spain) and Norman Love (USA). No pressure!
Ruth’s top-5 finish at the World Chocolate Masters remains the highest ever result achieved by a UK chocolatier or pastry chef at international culinary competition.
Her success, ahead of national Chocolate Masters from France, Belgium and Switzerland, silenced many of the traditional critics of UK cuisine. It proved that, when it comes to chocolate and pastry, the UK can now compete and win against the best in the world.
